Macedonia to subsidise locally produced films

Film industry given boost
Macedonia is changing its law on film funding. The change foresees an increase in subsidising locally made films. From now on, films will be subsidised 1 million Euro, up from the previous 500,00 Euro on offer for films of national importance.

The change aims to attract foreign film companies to enter the Macedonian market and help boost the local film industry. The law also foresees the return of 20% of the invested funds if the film is filmed on the territory of Macedonia.

The change will see the film fund turn into a film agency, working to improve the current film industry in the country.

Macedonia has a small but capable film industry, headed by Milcho Manchevski's Oscar nominated Before the Rain and Darko Mitrevski's World War II football drama The Third Half.
