Today, Macedonia commemorates the 56th anniversary of the death of Metodija Andonov Chento.Political parties, representatives of the Prilep Municipality and the Union of Veterans all payed respects to the statesman in his hometown of Prilep today.
Metodija Andonov Chento was president of the national liberation movement in World War II, ASNOM. Chento was a devout believer and active promoter of the reunification of the Macedonian people and their territories. Many initiatives were quashed by the ruling communist Yugoslav authorities and Chento was eventually betrayed by fellow Macedonians who were staunch supporters of the ruling communist regime, sentencing him to prison.
Chento was another victim of communism but he will forever be remembered as one of the greatest Macedonian patriots in history.
